Short description: The course is focused on different types of organic pollutants in soil, with particular emphasis on their anthropogenic sources and the effects of their impact on soil. It involves the assessment of soil pollution (selection of appropriate methods for the collection, extraction and identification of various classes of organic contaminants in soil samples, regulations defining their maximum residue levels in soils).
Full description: The aim of the course is to familiarize student with the most common types of organic pollutants in the soil environment. It systematizes persistent organic compounds in soil, types of their interactions and the latest trends in methodology for the extraction and determination of their residues in soil. These include pesticides, polycyclic and monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated bi- and triphenyls, dioxins and furans, and petroleum products.
